Working With Overseas Parent Finance Teams
Japanese subsidiaries often report under local GAAP while parents expect IFRS packs. Aligning timelines avoids duplicate fieldwork.
Many of our clients are Japanese entities of overseas groups. Local statutory audits and group reporting packs share source ledgers but not always the same deadlines or measurement bases.
We recommend a joint calendar: statutory trial balance freeze, group pack delivery, and audit committee dates listed on one page. When those dates conflict, fieldwork stretches and confirmation replies pile up.
Translation of key policies into English (or the parent’s language) reduces rework. We do not need every journal in dual language, but impairment triggers, revenue recognition policies, and related-party definitions should be clear to both teams.
Early introductions between the local controller and the parent’s consolidation lead prevent last-minute surprises about intercompany eliminations that affect both opinions and packs.
